While we were wrestling with the notion of leaving our ministry positions that we knew and loved to branch out, stretch ourselves, and launch a new business, 99 Hills, it seemed that all we heard in every direction was talk about Faith.
Every sermon we heard, was about it (true, we were in the middle of a series called "Chronicles of the Fearless", about people in the Bible that had Faith). Every devotional that we read was about it. And it seemed like we saw social media post after post with some quip or phrase about it.
Faith was everywhere.
And it was always attached to 2 things. Action and Risk. Our pastor said it this way in a staff meeting during this season that I’ll never forget.
“Your level of Faith is in direct proportion to the level of risk that you’re willing to take.”
Think about it. If you know what the outcome is going to be, where’s the Faith? If you can control it, where’s the Faith? If you’re not certain of success, where’s the Faith? Or to put it a different way, if failure isn't a huge possibility, where’s the Faith?
We decided as a family that we were going to take this thought captive and truly live by Faith. Which has led us to where we are. Freshly transplanted in small-town USA, away from our families, and on the brink of launching a new business (that could fail).
But, we want to be a family that lives faith. Big Faith.
And we're not done yet. You see, once you take that first step out of the boat, you realize something. You’re walking on water! It’s exhilarating! You realize that you’re right where God wants you. And you see that He has some amazing things in store for you.
So here’s my challenge to you, and to us. What big, or small, thing is it in your life that you know God wants you to do? A change. A decision. A friend to make. A relationship to end. What’s something in your life you need to kill, so that something new can grow in it’s place? Would you be so bold as to comment below to share with us?
